PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Formic acid, systematically named methanoic acid, is the simplest carboxylic acid, and has the chemical formula HCOOH. The chemical composition is HCOOH. It is an important intermediate in chemical synthesis. The word Esters, salts, and the anion derived from formic acid are called formates. Industrially, formic acid is produced from methanol.
Formic acid is a colorless liquid having a pungent, penetrating odor at room temperature, not unlike the related acetic acid. It is miscible with water and most polar organic solvents, and is somewhat soluble in hydrocarbons. In hydrocarbons and in the vapor phase, it consists of hydrogen-bonded dimers rather than individual molecules.Owing to its tendency to hydrogen-bond, gaseous formic acid does not obey the ideal gas law.Solid formic acid, which can exist in either of two polymorphs, consists of an effectively endless network of hydrogen-bonded formic acid molecules. Formic acid forms a low-boiling azeotrope with water (22.4%). Liquid formic acid tends to supercool.

APPLICATION
1. Pharmaceutical industry: can be used for the processing of caffeine, analgin, aminopyrine, aminophylline, theobromine borneol, vitamin B1, metronidazole, and mebendazole.
2. Pesticide industry: It can be used for the processing of triadimefon, triadimefon, tricyclazole, triazole, triazophos, paclobutrazol, uniconazole, insecticidal ether, and diclofenac.
3. Chemical industry: raw materials for manufacturing various formates, formamide, pentaerythritol, neopentyl glycol, epoxy soybean oil, epoxy soybean oleate octyl ester, terpene chloride, paint remover, and phenolic resin.
4. Leather industry: used as a tanning agent, deliming agent, and neutralizer for leather.
5.Rubber industry: used for the processing of natural rubber coagulants and the manufacturing of rubber antioxidants.
6. Verify cerium, rhenium, and tungsten. Inspect aromatic primary amine, secondary amine, and methoxy group. Determination of relative molecular weight and solvent methoxy for crystallization. Used as a fixative in microscopic analysis.
7. Formic acid and its aqueous solution can dissolve many metals, metal oxides, hydroxides, and salts, and the resulting formates can be dissolved in water, making them suitable as chemical cleaning agents. Formic acid does not contain chloride ions and can be used for cleaning equipment containing stainless steel materials.
8. It is used to mix apple, papaya, jackfruit, bread, cheese, cheese, cream and other edible essence and essence for whisky and rum. The concentration in the final flavored food is approximately 1-18 mg/kg.
9. Other: It can also manufacture printing and dyeing mordants, dyeing agents, treatment agents, plasticizers for fibers and paper, food preservation, animal feed additives, and reducing agents.
