Physical and Chemical Properties
Magnesium Hydroxide is an inorganic alkaline compound, the main component of brucite , with a chemical formula of Mg (OH) 2 and a molecular weight of 58.32. At room temperature, it is a white plate-like crystal or powder of hexagonal crystal system, with a density of about 2.36g/cm3, a refractive index of 1.58, a Mohs hardness of 2.5, and a melting point of 280 ºC (vacuum decomposition). Almost insoluble in water, slightly alkaline in water, pH value of water slurry is 9.5-10.5, insoluble in alcohol, soluble in dilute acid and ammonium salt solutions.

Application

1. Magnesium hydroxide is an excellent flame retardant for plastic and rubber products.
2. As a flue gas desulfurizer in environmental protection.
3. Used as an oil additive, it has anti-corrosion and desulfurization effects.
4. Used for refining in the electronics industry, pharmaceuticals, sugar, as insulation material, and manufacturing other magnesium salt products.

Storage
Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. The storage temperature should not exceed 37 ºC. It should be stored separately from oxidants and edible chemicals, and avoid mixing storage. Keep the container sealed. Stay away from sources of fire and heat.
