Physical and Chemical Properties:
Ethyl acetate (systematically ethyl ethanoate, commonly abbreviated EtOAc, ETAC or EA) is the organic compound with the formula CH3−COO−CH2−CH3, simplified to C4H8O2. This colorless liquid has a characteristic sweet smell (similar to pear drops) and is used in glues, nail polish removers, and in the decaffeination process of tea and coffee. Ethyl acetate is the ester of ethanol and acetic acid; it is manufactured on a large scale for use as a solvent.

Application:
Ethyl acetate is a standard solvent. Used especially for paints, varnishes, lacquers, cleaning, and perfumes. In the lab, ethyl acetate is a universal solvent for column and thin-layer chromatography.
Ethyl acetate is present in alcoholic drinks, cereal crops, radishes, fruit juices, beer, wine, and spirits.  

Storage:
 It has a specific gravity of 0.933 and a flash point of -8° C (closed cup) and is highly flammable.  It should therefore be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area that is free from the risk of ignition.  For transportation purposes, it is classified as packing group II and hazard class 3 and it is an irritant.
