Physical and Chemical Properties
Sodium molybdate is soluble in water and insoluble in acetone.
Sodium molybdate reacts with acid to produce molybdic acid precipitate:
Appearance: White diamond shaped crystals.

Application:
a. Agriculture uses 500 tons of sodium molybdate as fertilizer annually. Especially, some suggest using it to treat broccoli in molybdenum deficient soil and flagellates in cauliflower. However, caution must be exercised as a concentration of 0.3 ppm sodium molybdate can lead to copper deficiency in animals, especially cows.
b.. It is a non oxidizing anodic inhibitor used in industry for corrosion suppression. [3] Adding sodium molybdate can significantly reduce the demand for nitrite in fluids inhibited by nitrosamines and improve the corrosion protection of carboxylate fluids.
c. In industrial water treatment applications, the use of sodium molybdate is superior due to the potential for galvanic corrosion caused by bimetallic structures.
d. The advantage of sodium molybdate is that a lower ppm dosage of molybdate can reduce the conductivity of circulating water.. By using lower concentrations of sodium molybdate, the conductivity is kept at the lowest level, thereby reducing the galvanic corrosion potential.
