Physical and Chemical Properties
Crotonaldehyde is a chemical compound with the formula CH3CH=CHCHO.
Slightly soluble in water, miscible with most organic solvents.
Application
It is a precursor to many fine chemicals. Primarily used in the preparation of n-butanol, n-butyraldehyde, rubber vulcanisation accelerators, alcohol denaturants, and leather softeners.
Storage
Crotonaldehyde is a potent irritant even at the ppm levels. It is not very toxic, with an LD50 of 174 mg/kg (rats, oral).
